How to Adjust Your Holster’s Retention
Comp-Tac holsters are not only retention adjustable but they’re also ready to use straight out of the package. Certain holsters, such as the Minotaur MTAC, may require a break-in period before the factory retention can be fully utilized. Here are some steps to take to get the most out of your holster’s adjustable retention.
Step 1: Check that the holster or magazine pouch is the correct model for your firearm.
Step 2: Ensure that your firearm is UNLOADED.
Step 3: Double check that your firearm is unloaded!
Step 4: Put the holster on your waistband in the appropriate location. Insert the firearm so that the pistol is fully seated in the holster.
Step 5: Draw the unloaded firearm to test the retention. This may need to be repeated a few times to get a good feel on what the retention is and how you would like to adjust it.
Step 6: Using the allen wrench that was included with your order, adjust the retention screws by tightening or loosening the screw by 1/8 turn. Check the retention.
Step 7: Repeat Step Six until the desired retention has been achieved.
NOTE: Retention screws should be checked on a weekly basis. It is recommended that you use medium (blue) Loctite to secure them once you have found a level of retention that best suits your personal needs.
Breaking In Your Holster
Minotaur Holsters will require a break-in period that varies for each firearm. Until the backing has been broken in a bit, the holster may have an overall tight fit. Here are some tricks to speed up the break-in process of your Minotaur holsters:
Option 1: Leave the UNLOADED firearm in the holster overnight. The muzzle of the firearm can be covered with a few grocery bags or socks to thicken the frame up a bit prior to holstering.
Option 2: Holster and draw the UNLOADED firearm approximately 20 times in succession (more or less as needed).
Option 3: Wear the holster around the house for a few evenings. The leather backing will not only conform to the pistol but also to your body frame.
