How to Adjust the Retention on an Outside the Waistband Holster

  1. Check and ensure the holster selected is the correct make and model for your handgun.
  2. Make sure your handgun in UNLOADED.
  3. Double check that your handgun is UNLOADED
  4. Using an UNLOADED handgun, push the handgun into the holster as far as it will go. It should seat completely in the holster such that the trigger is covered. If the trigger is not covered, DO NOT USE the holster and contact Comp-Tac customer service.
  5. Retention has been set at the factory by one of our technicians on the actual firearm. After seating the handgun from the holster, checking the amount of tension on the handgun. To add or reduce retention, gradually tighten/loosen the tension screw 1/8th of a turn and check the tension on the unloaded handgun.
  6. Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the degree of retention.
  7. If your holster has three retention screws you may need to loosen the bottom most retention screw while tightening the top retention screw.
  8. Do not adjust the middle screw unless the top and bottom retention screws have been move completely and retention is still not to desired level.
  9. Once the retention screw has been set put the holster on and check the retention for a final time with an UNLOADED firearm while you are wearing the holster.
  10. After you have set the desired retention on your holster Comp-Tac suggests applying BLUE Loctite to all your screws to avoid screw loss.
  11. The factors controlling the degree of retention on your holster and handgun are your personal preferences and for your intended use of the holster and handgun.

How to Adjust the Retention on an Inside the Waistband Holster

Retention on an IWB holster is different from an OWB holster. When you receive your IWB holster, do not put your gun in it and turn the holster upside down. If you do, the gun will probably fall out of the holster. The design of our IWB holsters is set up so that part of the retention is provided by your pants and belt. Please keep that in mind as you adjust the tension on your holster.

What to make your holster hold the gun tighter? Want it to hold looser?

Comp-Tac holsters are not only retention adjustable but they’re also ready to use straight out of the package. Certain holsters, such as the Minotaur MTAC, may require a break-in period before the factory retention can be fully utilized. Here are some steps to take to get the most out of your holster’s adjustable retention.

  10. After you have set the desired retention on your holster Comp-Tac suggests applying BLUE Lock-Tite to all your screws to avoid screw loss.
  11. The factors controlling the degree of retention on your holster and handgun are your personal preferences and for your intended use of the holster and handgun.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure optimum performance of your Comp-Tac Gear, we recommend the following:

  1. Check the tension screws on a weekly basis or use medium (blue) Loctite to secure them.
  2. Wipe the inside of the holster to remove and dust, dirt or debris that could scratch the finish of your handgun.
  3. Do NOT LEAVE GEAR IN CAR. Heat builds in your car and deforms Kydex.

Leather Hybrid Holsters

To help preserve the color and luster of your new belt or leather holster, you may use "Mink Oil" or "Neat's Foot Oil". Apply with a cotton cloth as needed to restore and maintain luster. You may also use a commercial conditioner such as Fiebing's Aussie Leather conditioner.

As leather Hybrid holsters break in the leather will form to the gun and your body. This may cause the screws to become loose. Please make sure to check your screws often and add resettable Locktite to ensure screw retention.

Tips for Putting On/Taking Off Your Inside the Waistband Holster

Inside the Waistband with Standard Clips

Putting On

  1. Use an empty holster with no firearm.
  2. Relax (loosen) your belt and holding the holster (not the clips) place the holster and clips inside the waistband so that the lips of the clips are just above the belt.
  3. Push the clips down so that the belt pushes the clips open naturally. Do not pull or overextend the clip.

Taking Off

  1. Remove and secure your handgun.
  2. With one hand, gently pull the holster upward and with the other hand open the clip enough to slide the clip of the clip onto the belt surface. Repeat for the second clip.
  3. Gripping the holster (not the clips), pull the entire holster up and out of the waistband.

IWB's with Velcro Clips

  1. Place holster inside the waistband in a comfortable position.
  2. Align the holster along body to where you plan on carrying.
  3. Put belt on over belt clips and take note of where the clips are along your belt.
  4. Stick the adhesive side of Velcro to the belt inside of your belt at that spot. Try to align the Velcro so it is centered with the clips. This will help with lateral movement for better adjustment.
  5. With the newly attached Velcro, loosely feed your belt on and secure it in place.

Tips:

  • We recommend blind stich sewing the Velcro in place (most shoe shops will do this) as the adhesive will lose strength over time.
  • Blousing your shirt a little after putting your holster on will help reduce printing.
  • Velcro clips are best used on the Velcro Lined Comp-Tac Kydex Reinforced Contour Belt

How To Install Inside the Waistband Clips

1. Remove OWB Clips by removing screws and T-nuts.
2. From included hardware kit: locate two screws, two rubber washers and two Chicago Nuts.
3. The IWB clips are attached with a single point to the holster. Suggested attachment point is the 3rd hole on the clips. This will have the grip fully accessible when worn. Attaching in different holes on the clips will allow user to change the cant of the holster. Example: Attaching to 4th hole on the front clip and 3rd hole on the rear clip will allow the holster to sit straight up and down.
4. Attach the clip by placing the screw in the 3rd hole of IWB clip, then place rubber spacer on screw, slide screw through bottom rivet on holster and insert into Chicago nut.
**Recommended: Please put a few drops of blue Loctite on screw at beginning of process to ensure clips stay put over time.
5. Tighten until rubber spacer starts to compress.
6. This set up will allow user to tuck in shirt between holster and clip.

Infidel Max Holster

Infidel Max Clip Guide

The Infidel Belt Clip
is a two pronged clip that slides quickly and easily over the belt. It may be combined with the infidel CTAC Strut for additional support.

The Infidel Belt Loops provide additional security by wrapping around your belt and snapping closed. May be combined with the Infidel CTAC Strut for additional support.

The Infidel CTAC Strut is a rear strut for the Infidel Holster used for extra stability and also provides a small amount of cant adjustment. It must be used with either the Infidel Belt Clip or the Infidel Belt Loops. This option can help distribute the weight of larger guns on the belt for more comfort.

In each case, the Infidel Holster comes ready for any of these options to be securely attached and put into immediate use. The hardware involved with each mounting option includes flat-headed hex screws, an Allen wrench, rubber bushings, T-nuts, and screw-head nuts.

With the Infidel Belt Clip, whether you have the slotted or solid-back style, the clip will be attached at the top, as shown above.
Infidel Max with Clip
Step 1: Place the Infidel clip against the holster making sure that the clip is correctly positioned with the holes lined up.

Step 2: Attach the clip by putting the screws firmly back in place, passing through the clip into the holster.

Step 3: Be sure to only partially tighten the first screw before installing the second. Just like putting a tire on a car, tighten the tension screws in rotation, a bit at a time. This keeps the tension even and allows for alignment of the second screw.

The Infidel Belt Loops are similarly attached.

Step 1: Place the belt loops in a downward hanging position against the mounting holes. Loops will have to be unsnapped to allow the screw to pass through the loop backing.

Step 2: Begin replacing the screws. The screw will pass through the bottom part of the snap. If it sticks out or is uneven, it may prevent the snap from closing properly. Make sure your alignment is straight and that the screw goes in all the way.

For the CTAC Strut, you will remove the retention screws on the bottom left of the holster as shown below.

Step 1: Using the Allen wrench included in your order, remove the screws indicated above. The washers should also come away cleanly once the screws are removed.

Step 2: Place the strut inside the holster, between the rubber bushing and the inside of the Kydex on the screw end of the assembly. The T-nut and bushing should not be moved.

Step 3: Make sure that the strut is correctly positioned to align both holes with the retention screw assembly so that it will hold your holster at the correct angle. Attach the strut by putting the hardware firmly back in place, passing through the clip and the holster.

Step 4: You will need to adjust the holster retention during this operation to ensure proper fit. Depending on the thickness of the strut, you may need to trim a bit off the bushing.

When adjusting your holster’s retention remember:

Step 1: Check that the holster is the correct model for your gun.

Step 2: Ensure that your firearm is UNLOADED.

Step 3: Double check that your firearm is unloaded!

TIPS AND TRICKS: A light application of medium blue or yellow Loctite on the threads of the T-nut and screw will secure the hardware to the user-selected level of retention.

The International has a modular mounting system. To see how to change the mount pieces, cant or even the size of the belt width please see this guide.

If you have any questions please feel free to call our Customer Service Representatives at 281-209-3040. Thank you!

International Compatibility with Additional Mounts

The International Holster offers a modular mounting system which will work with Black-Tech Tek-Lok, Safarieland ELS and Blackhawk Quick Disconnect. See how to install all of these mounts.

Comp-Tac’s International holster has quickly become a favorite for competition and recreational shooters.  Being the featured holster at the Comp-Tac Republic of Texas IDPA Championship, The International not only looked good but proved its competitive advantage leading Team Comp-Tac shooter Gordon Carrell to a win.  In addition to the numerous options for adjustments in both mount and cant, the International also boasts a lesser-known ability to work in conjunction with many of the industry’s most popular attachment platforms.

For customers who use the Tek-Lok™ Single Mag Pouch or the newly released Tek-Lok™ AR Mag Pouch, you will be pleased to know that this mount option can also be used when carrying the International holster.   Attaching and detaching the Tek-Lok™ from the International holster is fairly simple:

-       Place the open Tek-Lok™ mount onto the International holster body

-       Line up the Tek-Lok™ at the desired hole position and fasten the mount to the holster using the provided 3/8” screws.

-       To use this set-up with the holster canted, line up the Tek-Lok™ mount over the International’s mount at the desired orientation and attach using 3/8” screws.  Repositioning of the Chicago nuts in the International holster body may be required.

One request we often receive from customers is a holster that is compatible with MOLLE gear.  The International answers the call by attaching to the Blackhawk! ™ SERPA S.T.R.I.K.E. CQC Platform.  The SERPA S.T.R.I.K.E. is a reinforced synthetic carbon fiber co-polymer mount which is designed to provide secure attachment to MOLLE loops on vests, dropleg platforms, and other panels.  Whether you carry your MOLLE panel on a vest, backpack or range bag, this coupling provides a convenient option to secure the International for everyday use.

To attach the SERPA S.T.R.I.K.E. to the International:

-       Line up the holster side of the SERPA S.T.R.I.K.E. platform with the associated holes in the holster body. Repositioning of the Chicago nuts in the holster may be necessary.

-       Fasten the two pieces together using 3/8” screws provided with the International.

-       To attach the holster and SERPA S.T.R.I.K.E. platform to MOLLE loops, insert the four attachment points on the platform into the desired MOLLE loops and pull up to secure the loops into the platform attachment hooks.

This particular attachment is not designed to be installed or removed quickly, however, so for those who prefer a faster method of holster removal we recommend including the Blackhawk! ™ Quick Disconnect System Kit.

This injection-molded polymer kit provides the user with a method of attaching and removing the International holster from various mounts and platforms quickly and easily, allowing the holster to be mobile and versatile to suit the needs of the user.  Mounting of the Quick Disconnect to the International is straightforward as well:

-       Line up the holes of the “male” Quick Disconnect Piece with the Chicago nuts in the International holster body. Ensure that the tabs on the QD piece are facing up and that there is some separation between the tabs and the holster body (if the tabs are flush against the holster body they will not properly lock into the “female” Quick Disconnect piece).  Repositioning of the Chicago nuts may be required.

-       Fasten the Quick Disconnect Piece to the International holster body using 3/8” screws.

-       The “female” portion of the Quick Disconnect system can be directly attached to the surface which the holster is to be mounted to using two or more of the screw holes in the piece and the hardware provided with the system.  Ensure that the locking mechanisms are facing up to guarantee that the QD system will function correctly.

-       To lock the holster into the Quick Disconnect system, line up the tabs with the associated slots in the “female” side and turn the holster clockwise.

-       To remove the holster, pull up on the locking mechanisms and turn the holster counter-clockwise.

If you are looking for a thigh rig option, the International can be set up with the Blackhawk! ™ Thigh Rig.  The Thigh Rig provides a secure but flexible mount option for situations where the International may be holstering a sidearm or secondary firearm. To attach the International to the Thigh Rig Platform:

-       Position the Chicago nuts on the International body so that they occupy the two holes closest to the top of the holster as well as the second hole from the bottom.

-       Line up the Chicago nuts with the associated holes on the center of the Thigh Rig platform.

-       Using the Thigh Rig’s provided flat washers and 3/8” screws from the International holster, attach the holster to the Thigh Rig.

The final popular industry platform which complements the International holster is the Quick Locking System (QLS) Quick Attachment system from Safariland™.  The QLS provides a mount option designed to be attached to other industry platforms as well as stationary objects such as a bedside table or center console in a vehicle.  To attach the International to the QLS mount:

-       Separate the front mounting piece of the QLS from the back plate by pushing together the tabs at the bottom of the mount until they clear the side walls of the back plate.  The front piece will then slide up and out of the back plate.

-       Position the International’s Chicago nuts in the two holes second from the top and the second hole from the bottom

-       Orient the QLS front piece so that the holes line up and the Safariland™ embossed logo on the top of the piece is facing away from the holster

-       Attach the piece to the International using the holster’s provided 3/8” screws.

Whether you use your International holster for competition, concealed carry, personal defense or tactical purposes, the many mounting options which this holster allows gives you the freedom to create a set-up which works for you.  Whatever mounting option you choose to go with, know that you can attach The International; the fastest smoothest holster around!
