Below is Product Use and Adjustment Information for your Comp-Tac Magazine Pouches. If you have additional questions please call 281-209-3040 and ask one of our friendly staff.

Adjusting the Retention of Your Magazine Pouch

  1. Check and ensure the magazine pouch selected is the correct make and model for your magazine. A few magazines have similar shapes but most magazines require a model specific pouch. To see if your pouch will hold multiple magazines please give us a call at 281-209-3040.
  2. Make sure your magazine in UNLOADED.
  3. Double check that your magazine is UNLOADED
  4. Using an UNLOADED magazine, push the magazine into the pouch as far as it will go.
  5. Retention has been set at the factory by one of our technicians on the actual magazine. After seating the magazine in the pouch, check the amount of tension on the magazine. To add or reduce retention, gradually tighten/loosen the tension screw 1/8th of a turn and check the tension on the unloaded handgun.
  6. Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the degree of retention.
  7. Once the retention screw has been set put the holster on and check the retention for a final time with an UNLOADED magazine while you are wearing the pouch- remember you will need to pull the magazine straight up. Do not twist the magazine while drawing from the pouch or you can create drag and binding.
  8. After you have set the desired retention on your magazine pouch Comp-Tac suggests applying BLUE Loctite to all your screws to avoid screw loss.
  9. The factors controlling the degree of retention on your magazine pouch are your personal preferences and for your intended use of the magazine and magazine pouch.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure optimum performance of your Comp-Tac Gear, we recommend the following:
  1. Check the retension screws on a weekly basis or use medium (blue) Loctite to secure them.
  2. Wipe the inside of the magazine pouch to remove and dust, dirt or debris that could scratch the finish of your magazine.
  3. Do NOT LEAVE GEAR IN CAR. Heat builds in your car and deforms Kydex.

Leather Magazine Pouches

To help preserve the color and luster of your new magazine pouch, you may use "Mink Oil" or "Neat's Foot Oil". Apply with a cotton cloth as needed to restore and maintain luster. You may also use a commercial conditioner such as Fiebing's Aussie Leather conditioner.

As leather magazine pouches break in the leather will form to the magazine and your body. When the magazine pouch is new you may want to store the magazine in the pouch to stretch it. As the magazine pouch ages you may need to store the magazine pouch without the magazine.
